Why Do We Hunger For Beauty?

“Why Do We Hunger For Beauty” is among my favorites in songs I have composed. I love entering into it and revisiting the imagery and the questions it poses. Friendship with Tim and Sherrie Lowly, and daughter Temma, goes back to the years we were together at Reba Place Church. Tim’s paintings have long moved me deeply, and he is also a musician and composer, and we shared meaningful experiences playing together in the Reba music group as well as in other settings over the years. Not long after they left Reba, Sherrie entered into a process culminating eventually in pastoral ministry in the United Methodist Church. As she recently approached retirement, I was honored when she asked that this song be included in one of their church’s virtual online services, and Tim, along with videographer friend Greg Metzler, put this video together, back at the Reba Place Meetinghouse.
